Budget Smartphone Nokia 1 Enters Kenya With Android Go

Nokia 1

Nokia 1, announced at Mobile World Congress by HMD Global goes on sale this month, and we have a go to market date for the budget smartphone. Launched alongside 4 others; Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 8110, the Nokia 1 is the entry level smartphone, even as the Nokia 8110, a feature phone sits lower in the food chain.

The Nokia 1’s selling points include the price point which is at Kshs 9,500 recommended retail price, 4G LTE and Android Oreo (Go Edition) which means it gets pure light Android with better guarantees on software updates, something that lacks at this price point.

Android Oreo Go comes with less pre-installed apps resulting in more user storage for use, smooth experience since the software is optimized for low power devices (1GB RAM) and security updates are prompt.

It also has apps developed for use on this device like Google Maps Go, Youtube Go, Google Go and Google Assistant Go, all developed with the device in mind.

The specs sheet is as below:

  • 4.5″ IPS Display (480*854)
  • 5MP main camera
  • 2MP selfie shooter
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD
  • Dual SIM capability
  • 4G connectivity

Nokia 1 comes in two colour options; Warm Red and Dark Blue starting 16th April 2018.
