United States Leads in Countries That Reject Basic Human Rights

UN Human Rights
US President Donald Trump

Conceived as a unifier of nations, its core mission of the United Nations (UN) was to restore international peace and ensure security.

In its founding Charter, Article 1 notes that its mission is to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion

Article Two of the Charter notes that: All members, in order to ensure to all of them the rights and benefits resulting from membership, shall fulfil in good faith the obligations assumed by them in accordance with the present Charter; All Members shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the present Charter and shall refrain from giving assistance to any state against which the United Nations is taking preventive or enforcement action.

But that has not been the case with the United States (US) a member of UN, whose actions have been in contrary with the underlying principles of the organization, defying its expected role which dates back to as early as 2005.

In 2005, UN made a declaration to declare “Food” as a human rights. According to UN right to adequate food is realized when every man woman or child,  alone or in a community have the physical and economical means at all times to adequate food ar means of procurement. All members country but US voted YES.

In 2010, UN brought forth a resolution to recognize clean water and sanitation as a human right. I22 countries were in favour of the resolution but the US was among 41 countries to abstain from voting.

Every country has ratified the UN treaty recognizing the rights of a child, rights of those with disabilities, rights of indigenous people, right to paid maternity leave, access to affordable, reliable and sustainable and modern energy for all, except for the US that voted No and abstained from voting in some cases.

In voting against the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, related intolerance and glorification of Nazis,  US and Ukraine did stick to the other side of the coin.

US is among the world’s most powerful countries because of its influence in many different fields and global connections, yet fighting for human rights seems like a lost course to them. Or are they planning exercise impunity when dealing with other humans cause they got the muscle now.
