Ex- Vice Chancellor To Chair Kenyatta University Hospital Board

Prof Olive Mugenda, former Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta Univerity has been appointed as chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital board for three consecutive years by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During her tenure as Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olive oversaw the construction of the hospital and was very instrumental in conceptualizing the idea of the hospital and spearheading the writing of the proposal which led to the financing of the hospital.

In a gazette notice, the President also named Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, Kithinji Kiragu, and Gladys Ogallo to the panel as members of the hospital board to serve for the same period.

Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital, which is a parastatal under the Ministry of Health, will play a vital role in research by lecturers and students at Kenyatta University in their related disciplines.

Prof Mugenda who is also a member of the Judicial Service Commission thanked the President for her appointment and promised to have the hospital opened as soon as possible and contribute to the government’s healthcare agenda.

She mentioned that she was delighted to have the opportunity to complete the vision she had for the referral hospital particularly in the big fight against cancer and that the hospital was part of vision 2030 and she will determine to make it a center of excellence in the region.

Prof Mugenda retired as Vice Chancellor of the institution on March 18, 2016, after serving for 10 years. Kenyatta University has transformed into a world-class with at least forty well-built infrastructure constructed during her reign.
