On Saturday our very own long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge became the first person in the world to run a marathon in less than two hours, a special event dubbed INEOS 1:59 in Vienna, Austria. Kipchoge completed the 26.2-mile challenge in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds.
When he crossed the finishing line, he threw his hands around his wife who was waiting on the other end, and a throng of supporters hoisted him up in celebration. Running First-Ever Marathon in 1 hour 59 seconds, Kipchoge broke the world sub two hour marathon barrier.
“I’m the happiest man,” said Kipchoge, upon completion of the race. “No human is limited. You can do it.”
This historic moment for the 34-year-old, threw Kenyans into a frenzy who were blowing up social media with congratulatory messages and trending hashtags #EliudKipchoge #INEOS159, #Ineoschallange, with some referring to him as (Greatest of All Times)GOAT. President Uhuru Kenyatta went ahead to personally congratulated Kipchoge in a statement posted on Twitter.
“You’ve done it, you’ve made history and made Kenya proud while at it,” Kenyatta said. “Your win today will inspire tens of future generations to dream big and to aspire for greatness.”
Kenyans have not had enough of Kipchoge’s historic world record and through a hashtag #EliudTaughtMe they have been sharing what they have learned from Kipchoge and demystified what No Human Is Limited means to them. Some cheeky Kenyans on Twitter, have slipped in hilarious memes into the conversation that will cheer up your Monday.
