Retired Catholic ArchBishop Ndingi Mwana A’Nzeki Dies At 88

Retired Catholic Archbishop Emeritus Raphael Ndingi Mwana A’Nzeki has passed on today at the age of 88 years old, after long term illness. His death was confirmed by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue.

Following the announcement of his deaths, tributes started in in his remembrance. President Uhuru Kenyatta in his message of condolence to the family describing him as a loving and outstanding man of God whose servant leadership will be missed by Kenyans.

ODM leader Raila Odinga described him as a dedicated servant to humanity, saying that Kenyans knew they could always count on him to stand and speak out for truth and justice whatever the threat that posed to his life and that as a country we will miss his distinguished service and dedication to humanity

Ndingi was born on December 25, 1931, in Mwala Machakos. He was consecrated bishop by Pope Paul VI. Before becoming the archbishop of Nairobi, he served in many roles during his lifetime including an assistant priest at Makadara, Nairobi, Education Secretary-General of Catholic Bishop’s student at Rochester College, New York; Bishop of Machakos, later of Nakuru.

Last year, the man of God celebrated 50 years since his ordination. Many will remember Archbishop Ndingi was a sharp-witted deeply religious priest whose sermons were a thorn in the flesh for the unjust.
