Kenyatta Appoints Political Ally’s Wife Zahra Moi to State Parastatal

Zahra Moi, wife to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has been reinstated as a member of the Board of Tourism Research Institute in a gazette notice. In 2016, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala appointed Mrs Moi, who is also the CEO of the Lord Erroll Gourmet Restaurant to the Tourism Research Institute Board.

In exercise of powers conferred by section 54 (I) (h) of the Tourism Act, 2011, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife re-appoints Zahra Bahlewa Moi to be a member of the Board of Tourism Research Institute for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 1st June, 2019,” said Gazette Notice No. 4362.

Mrs Moi graduated from USIU  with a Magna Cum Laude degree in Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration, awarded to students with a GPA of above 3.7 out of 4.0 equivalent to a First Class Honors in the Kenyan and British systems.

To balance out the scales in his government, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded plum parastatal jobs to a handful of individuals as board directors and board members. Other women appointed into the position include;

Dorothy Ghettuba Pala – Chairperson of the Kenya Film Commission.

Elizabeth Pantoren (Prof.) – Chairperson of the Board of the Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation.

Jane Karuku – Chairperson of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board.

Mary Mbilo Khimulu – Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research in Eastern Africa.

Deborah Bubi – Non-Executive Chairperson of the Youth Advisory Board.

Joyce Ngugi – Chairperson of the National Council for Children Services.

Muthoni Gichohi – Chairperson of the Retirement Benefits Appeals Tribunal.

Jacqueline Oyuyo – Member of the Board of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority.

Lucy Kambuni – Chairperson of the Capital Markets Tribunal.

Rose Nkonge – Chairperson of the Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board.

Salome Kimata – Member of the Board of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
