Wajir Women rep assaulted

Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi was left hurt after she was assaulted by Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim for failing to allocate money for his Constituency, Wajir East. Ms Gedi sits in the Budget Committee. Mr Kassim punched her twice and left her bloodied in the parliament confines.

Ms Gedi, who was in the company of Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, was going for a committee meeting at Protection House, which is situated outside parliament buildings when Mr Kassim he assaulted her.

“It was about 9.50 am I was with Gladys Wanga (Homabay woman representative) when I met the Honourable member Rashid Kassim of Wajir East. We just said hello and he asked me how comes we did not put anything for him in his constituency and I told him you were not there and you were the host MP and you did not mobilise your people to come and present their case. I told him, we don’t just allocate the money, we listen to the public views.

“What we had for the entire Wajir county was one hundred million. We first look at priorities on water, roads. I did put money in four constituencies, Wajir West, Elda, Wajir North, Wajir South because we were looking t the need and the priority, as a committee we were very fair.

“He called me stupid and nonsense and then he punched me. I was shocked, I could not believe it. Mheshimiwa for Wajir West pulled him aside, and he came again and hit me again,” she narrated.

She was rushed to Karen Hospital for treatment and she recorded the statement on assault at Parliament Police Station. Ms Wanga who witnessed the incident said she was with Ms Gedi as they were going committee meeting when they met him at the parking lot only to see him punching her and she started crying and bleeding. Mr Kassim was later arrested for assaulting Ms Gedi. Many have condemned him dishonourable act.
