Chukua selfie campaign that got netizens wagging tongues after a mega collabo consisting of Kenya’s biggest artists in ‘Chukua Selfie’ song was released which garnered over 2 million views on YouTube in less than a month.
The song successful ushered in the official launch of Chukua Selfie Campaign, held at Kiza Ballroom, Galana Plaza. Among the attendees were influencers, artist and media personalities who participated in the campaign and the organizers of the campaign. Popular among them were the host Shaffie Weru, Juacali, Nyashinski, Fena Gitu, Dj Shiti, Dj Redbone, Dj Kalonje just to mention a few.
Speaking to the crowd, ‘Chukua Selfie’ Brand Representative Eric Achola said the main objective of the campaign is to advocate for an HIV/AIDS-free society. He mentioned that the campaign was targetting young men between the ages of 18 and 24 and urging them to know their HIV status using the self-test kits.
According to Mr. Achola, using music to communicate to Kenyan Youths about the need to be responsible about their sexual lives influenced the decision to make Chukua Selfie track, incorporating top artists and celebrities, colorful visuals and talented video vixen to catch their eyes.
In its first phase of Chukua Selfie Campaign, music was the theme, noted Mr. Ochola, but they will soon roll out a sports edition to encourage more youths to actively participate in the campaign.
Founded by the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, UNITAID, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Johnson& Johnson and Gilead Sciences, the campaign seeks to engage men particularly in sub-Saharan Africa in new and innovative ways to reduce HIV transmission and completely eradicate the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Chukua Selfie Campaign has received massive support the Menstar Coalition and is set to be very impactful to the society.
